SBG is a full service construction company. Our infrastructure enables us to handle projects of all sizes. Typical scopes of work range from re-finishing hardwood floors and repainting apartments for budget conscious new buyers to brownstone gut renovations. SBG built the first LEED-CI Gold Certified Showroom in NYC for Milliken and Company in 2006 and we have incorporated green building practices into our projects ever since. We are EPA certified in lead paint and asbestos testing and abatement. We only use low VOC products to insure the safety of your home or office.
As a one-stop shop, our staff architect and expediter can create, file, and obtain swift approvals for all documents required for review and approvals by management companies, Landmarks and the NYC Department of Buildings.

In a standard bid process, we meet on site with you and your architect to review the space and plans. Once your design and material selections are confirmed, we present you with a through, comprehensive proposal. Our practice of detailing the scope of work, critical path items and construction schedule is highly effective in reducing unnecessary delays and change orders. During the bid process we strive to make sure you know what you are buying, what it will cost, and how long the project will take to complete. Contrary to popular belief, avoidable change orders are not in a quality general contractor’s best interest.

Sometimes we’re asked to help a client develop a project based on their budget. Much like with a standard bid, we meet with you onsite and discuss your objectives. We then work as a team to value engineer the project. The advantage to this approach is that we often develop a scope of work that meets your objectives while avoiding costly time traps like structural quagmires or nonessential lead time items.
Success in the residential renovation business means delivering value to your clients on a timely basis. We achieve this goal through a management driven, hands-on approach. We insure proper communication is maintained throughout the project through the use of emails, construction schedules, critical path item lists, material order scheduling sheets, weekly site visits and meeting minute update sheets. Through this diligent process everyone knows what decisions must be made, when they must be made by, and how they impact the project. The renovation of a home is a significant financial and emotional undertaking and we do everything possible to make our jobs run smoothly.

Any one working on a Smart Building project is either staff or one of our licensed subcontractors. Every job has a full time project manager and a working superintendent. Smart Building CEO Evan Grant deals directly with each client. Our entire team is trained to treat your home like it is their own. Daily cleaning is maintained throughout the project culminating with a white glove inspection upon completion.
